In May 2012, the Employee Benefit Research Institute (“EBRI”) issued a report showing that the percentage of workers covered by employer-sponsored health care coverage (measured through April 2011) continued to fall despite improvement in the economy. Employer-sponsored health care coverage is the most common source of health care coverage for workers who exceed the poverty line and who are not yet eligible for Medicare. As you may know, on May 16, 2012, CMS issued a final rule revising the conditions of participation by hospitals in the Medicare and Medicaid programs. (Download the final rule.) Among other things, the final rule includes a provision requiring that at least one member of a hospital's medical staff be included on the governing body of the hospital or hospital system.

As of May 18, 2012, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has received 42,000 petitions that count against the 65,000 H-1B Regular Cap, and 16,000 petitions that count against the 20,000 H-1B Master's Cap.
